Breaking News out of Re/Max HQ -May 13, 2019
A few months ago Re/Max and Redfin (already in Canada) formed a partnership to help home buyers. However, this marriage abruptly ended after Redfin decided to introduce a program last week that allows prospective home buyers of buying a home without a real estate agent. The new Redfin buy online program is currently being tested in Boston.
Re/Max CEO, Adam Contos, in a recent email to real estate agents, brokers and brokerages he said: "That program goes against every value RE/MAX has had for more than 45 years."
He further goes on to say the role of a real estate agent in a real estate transaction is a curcial; "We strongly believe the role of an agent in the transaction, for both buyers and sellers, is more important than ever – providing professional guidance and protecting the interests of consumers in a large, complex financial transaction. Therefore, we have begun the process of dissolving our exclusive referral agreement with Redfin."
Re/Max agents who are already in the Redfin program have to decide whether to continue working under this program or renege.
This latest news won't have any impact on our clients in Oakville, Burlington or Milton. We will continue to uphold Re/Max's core values: M.O.R.E. – Deliver to the Max, Customer Obsessed, Do the Right Thing and Together Everybody Wins.
